Hello Parents and Followers,

We are very close to our Friendship Parties day and would like to give some quick reminders about the class parties! The actual day of the party will be on February 16th which is on a Friday. If you would like to sign up to volunteer for your child's teacher please let your teacher know ahead of time before that Friday. We always greatly appreciate your support and the more the merrier. For your child, please bring a white lunch bag/sack to serve as a mailbox. If you want your child to bring valentines cards there is no need to write names on them, but please have enough to pass out for everyone in class. There will be more information to come as the date gets closer.

Language Arts

This week in Language Arts we are focusing on Poetry! We will be finding out how artists and authors impact cultural heritage and explore the different types of poetry such as narrative, lyrical, free verse, and humorous.

Mathematics

This week in Math we are focusing on a new unit in Fractions! Students will be able to reason about fractions using multiple models. They will also understand that a fraction describes the division of a whole object or a set of objects into equal parts. They get to explore the different models of fractions including strip diagrams and fractions on a number line.

Science

We are wrapping up our Space unit in Science by exhibiting and demonstrating the relationship between the Sun, Earth, and Moon. Here is an example of what the students were able to exhibit and demonstrate:

Our students were also able to create an Interactive Word Wall on the Solar System. They were able to split into groups and do research on each planet. There was conversation about how big each planet had to be and made sure they were placed in the correct order from closest to furthest from the Sun. Here is an example of the Interactive Word Wall:

We hope you have a terrific week!

Thanks,

Parents and Followers,

Just a quick update and reminder that 3rd grade will not have a middle of the year parent teacher conference day. If you would like to meet with your child's teacher please contact them directly and set up a separate time for any additional questions or concerns.

Each month the HealthyZone organization sends out a newsletter that always has some great tips and interesting articles. In this month's edition, there is an article regarding the digital age of kids. These are some great tips for parents!
